New products - Organic Pasta Character Shapes
Finally we've found a supplier who can produce organic pasta in fun shapes for kids! OK, as breakthroughs go its not exactly on the same scale as the theory of relativity but we're pretty pleased that we've found these great bags of pasta. We now have organic Simpsons pasta shapes - Bart, Maggie, Lisa, Marge and of course Homer all moulded out of the best organic Italian pasta (500g - £1.25 per bag) and organic Scooby Doo shapes also at £1.25 for a 500g bag. You can find the pasta on page 4 of the organic ingredients listing on the Kiddies Kitchen website (or on the second shelf up, next to the chopped tomatoes in the Kiddies Kitchen shop in Tavistock). Teamed up with a Peter Rabbit organic pasta sauce and you have a healthy organic meal, with no preservatives or added salt or sugar, in less than ten minutes. Even better, why not cook it up in the morning and send the little ones to school with a hot pasta lunch in one of our brilliant Thermos food flasks?
New products - The Everyday Thermos Food Jar
Many customers have been asking whether there is a larger version of the Thermos funtainer food jar. Well now there is! The Everyday Thermos Food Jar has a capacity of 500ml but is still only 17cm high by 9cm diameter. This makes it perfect for older children who found the 290ml Thermos Coolkidz Funtainer Food Jar too small. And it will fit just nicely into the Thermos Soft Lunchbox! The food jar is all stainless steel construction and is virtually unbreakable. It will keep food hot for 5 hours and so could be used to provide hot packed lunches as well as hot food for picnics or winter days out. The Everyday Thermos Food Jar 500ml comes in stainless steel finish and costs £14.99 plus postage and packing from Kiddies Kitchen.
Recipe idea - Chicken casserole
I just thought it was worth sharing this recipe with you all as it proved popular with Luke over the weekend. Apologies to those who like exact measures, but I made it up so no weights and measures for this one! Anyway, we had 2 chicken quarters and a bag of chicken wings left over in the freezer from when I dismembered 2 organic chickens a couple of weeks ago. Incidentally, am I imagining it or is it actually possible to buy 2 whole organic chickens for the virtually the same price as 4 organic chicken breasts? So after defrosting all the bits I fried them off in a little olive oil to give them some colour and then removed them from the pan. Whilst this was happening I chopped a couple of carrots, some celery,an onion and some apple and then softened them in the pan with the chicken juices and a little more oil. I then de-glazed the pan with some cider, brought everything to a gentle simmer, put the chicken back in with the veg mixture. Stuck a lid on it and simmered for about 40 minutes or until the chicken joints were cooked through. Next stage was to pull all the meat off the chicken bones and return it to the pan, add a little seasoning and cream. We served it with a baked potato and broccoli. Even if I say it myself, it was pretty tasty - good enough for us as well as Luke and we got a few cubes of leftovers frozen in the freezer trays (at the foot of this page) for Lukes meals during the week.
