bank holiday - thinking time (and potty training)

A rainy bank holiday sunday in devon. Of course the shop is shut today but the website rolls on and there are more orders to process - thanks to all of our customers by the way.

We are in the middle of a serious attempt at potty training which is involving a lot of wet underpants and not too much in the way of full potties. Never mind I'm sure no 1 son will get the idea soon......I'll let you all know when we have success.

In between changing pants and wiping up I've been making some shelves for the shop - we now have so many melamine plates that I have decided that a bit of DIY is in order. The idea being to make some narrow shelves with a lip to put on the back wall of the shop - we'll have an entire wall of plates. And, given the designs on some of them its going to be a interesting sight. Another coat of paint tonight and a little bit of drill action tomorrow should mean that our table ware department is open for business on Tuesday. Oh, and they'll all be on the website soon I promise.

more new products - melamine tableware

We are very excited by the arrival in store of some fantastic melamine tableware from design label French Bull. Spots, rings, monsters and even super heroes feature on these unbreakable dishwasher safe plates and tumblers. There are even some very groovy cake stands and sandwich platters. I'll be adding them to the website over the next few days, in between packing orders and serving in the shop.

However, if you are desperate to get hold of them and I haven't uploaded it yet then just give us a ring in the shop on our telehone order hotline 01822 611177.

Here are some more images - great aren't they? 20cm plates are £5.95, platters and storage range from £12.99 to £29.95 depending on the actual item.

Thermos funtainers - the word spreads

Great news! We now have a good stock of all colours of thermos kid's food flasks in the storeroom just waiting for all of you to place your orders.

For those who haven't discovered them yet, these kid's thermos food flasks are a lifesaver on long journeys and day's out. At only 13cm high and about 9cm wide they are also small enough and light enough to allow your child to take a hot packed lunch to school - they will fit into any of the thermos lunchboxes with room to spare for a drink and a piece of fruit or sweet treat.

I was also delighted to see that the nutitional expert writing for mumknowsbest.co.uk had recommended them.

These thermos flasks are capable of keeping nearly 300ml of food (chilli, pasta, baby food, stew...) hot for up to 6 hours they are one of our bestsellers - so much so that supplies can get scarce at times. Rest assured, however, that we have good stocks now and more on the way!! For older (or hungrier) children we also have a 500ml version.

For more information on Thermos Funtainer Food Flasks and Thermos insulated lucnhboxes take a look at the relevant product pages in the Kiddies Kitchen online shop.

I've been published!

It was great to see my own name in print a couple of week sago when the Plymouth Evening Herald Newspaper printed a shortened version of my recent article on starting weaning. Weaning can be an exciting (and nervewracking) process and to make things easier we stock a wide range of useful equipment and organic first foods suitable for this time of a baby's life.

As well as Organix baby rice and first cereals we are delighted to now stock the Holle range of Demeter (Biodynamic and organic) first cereals. Each of the four varieties is suitable from 4 months. Spelt porridge and oat porridge both contain gluten, although spelt gluten is more soluble and therefore easier for a baby to absorb. The millet porridge and rice porridge are both gluten free. And of course none of them have any added sugar or other nasties.

At £2.75 for a 250g packet the Holle range represents excellent value for money. The Holle porridges are available now in our Tavistock shop and will be added to the website any day now. If you can't visit the shop simply call us on 01822 611177 and we can take an order over the phone.
